The Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center (Chinese Hai Nan Guo Ji Hui Zhan Zhong Xin ), designed by Atelier Li Xinggang, is located approximately 20 km west from Haikou's centre, on the north coast, Hainan Province, China. It covers a total of 136,200 sq. meters. This includes a 77,000 m2 exhibition centre and a 42,000m2 convention center. [1][2][3][4]
The smaller Hainan Exhibition & Convention Center was the main convention center in the area before this new convention centre opened. It is located downtown, just west of Evergreen Park. It was demolished in 2015 and is currently being transformed into a mall.
The convention center will include a hotel complex built on an artificial island. This circular island of 6 acres is under construction and is located in the ocean less than 100 meters to the north. It is made up of only earth and rock, with a causeway that leads to it. However, it will be designed to resemble a Maneki -neko. In the future, a marina and hotel complex will be constructed. The luxury hotel, which will be 108 stories tall and 300 metres high, is expected to cost 28 Billion Yuan. [5][6]
