The annual exhibition at the City Hall organized by the Hong Kong Publishing Federation could be regarded as the predecessor of the Hong Kong Book Fair. The first Hong Kong Book Fair was held in 1990 and this year it is its 29th year. The Fair has become an annual major event in Hong Kong with the number of visitors reaching new high every year. The organiser, the HKTDC, has always been striving to promote a local reading culture. Apart from extensively inviting the public to the Fair to visit and buy books, it also spares no effort in organising diversified cultural activities during the Book Fair period with a view to enhancing the contents and quality of the Fair.

The Hong Kong book fair attracted a record-breaking 1.04 million visitors. In addition to buying all kinds of books, fans also participated in various cultural activities, including live lectures and art gallery exhibitions.

Green book fair: promoting book donation and recycling

A number of book donation offices will continue to be set up at the Hong Kong book fair to allow exhibitors to donate books that are not intended to be returned. There is also a large green recycling box for exhibitors to use at the venue. Exhibitors are reminded to properly recycle their abandoned books and articles. In addition, the Hong Kong book fair mobile application was launched for the first time this year. It enables readers to access the latest information of the book fair, including the exhibition floor plan, at any time and anywhere. It can reduce the printing of the exhibition index and support environmental protection.
