Steamfest 2027
Steamfest is the Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club's premier annual event, held every year over the Australian Labour Day long weekend at the National Steam Centre, 1200 Ferntree Gully Road, Scoresby, Victoria. The next edition runs from Saturday 6 March to Monday 8 March 2027. It is the club's biggest gathering of the year and the best opportunity to see its restored collection working at full power.
The showgrounds come alive for the weekend: massive traction engines and ploughing engines steam up alongside classic steam rollers, while the back paddock hosts earth-moving and dragline demonstrations. The main sheds house the Lyttelton II steam tug and its working engine room, the steam hammer and blacksmithing demonstrations, the mobile steam collection, a large display of stationary steam engines and industrial diesels, and vintage tractors. A miniature railway and a tractor-drawn 'people mover' run around the grounds.
A daily programme features the traction engine parade, the Big Foot and straddle truck demonstrations, Willans diesel engine runs in Shed 3, and public viewing of the main arena. Gates open at 10:00 am daily; the site is open 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday and 10am to 3pm on Monday. Tickets can be bought at the gate or pre-purchased online, with concession rates for children and family passes available. The National Steam Centre also runs volunteer club run days on the last Sunday of most months, except December.
