Old Town Girls' Meeting 2027
The Cologne Carnival 2027 runs from Thursday, 4 February (Weiberfastnacht) through Tuesday, 9 February (Violet Tuesday). Highlights include daily street sessions, the iconic Rose Monday parade on 8 February featuring floats, music bands and the arrival of the Carnival Prince, and the evening burning of the Nubbel on Violet Tuesday. Smaller neighbourhood parades (Veedelszüge) and the alternative "Geisterzug" ghost parade add local flavor. Cultural events such as the Stunksitzung comedy shows are scheduled throughout December 2026, leading up to the carnival season. Traditions include the cutting of men’s ties on Weiberfastnacht, free Kölsch beer for "Funkenstange" holders, and the chant "Kölle Alaaf." Over 480 Carnival associations coordinate the festivities, drawing millions of visitors and generating significant economic activity through parades, sweets rain, and street celebrations across the Altstadt and Südstadt districts.
