INDIA-KENYA Trade links and commercial ties are centuries old. Kenya is home to a large Indian and Persons of Indian Origin minority (numbering more than 100,000 people). India set up an Office of British East Africa Resident in Nairobi after independence in 1948. Kenya has a High Commission located in New Delhi. Kenya and India both belong to international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) or Commonwealth of Nations. Bilateral cooperation has improved dramatically between the two nations since the Indian economic reforms. In April 2015 the Government of India approved a US$100 Million LOC for the Government of Kenya's Agricultural Mechanization Project. In January 2016, the Government of India approved a LOC of US$ 29.95 million to Kenya for upgrading the Rift Valley Textiles Factory. India offers Kenyans 101 scholarships each year, fully funded by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme. These scholarships are used to train them in technical skills. The two countries' cooperation also covers the development of SMEs.
