The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt
The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is one of the oldest and most famous Christmas Markets in the world. In the wooden booths of “the little city of wood and cloth” one finds traditional, often handmade Christmas decorations and sweet treats such as gingerbread and Spekulatius almond cookies.
The pre-Christmas fair on Nuremberg’s main market square can be traced back to the middle of the 16th century. Additional attractions are the Children’s Christmas Market and Sternenhaus children’s theater, the Sister Cities’ Market and the lantern parade of Nuremberg children.
Dates and opening hours (2026)
- 27 November – 24 December 2026 (hero and opening-hours block on the official English hub).
- Opening ceremony: 27 November 2026, 5.30 pm (Friday before the first Advent).
- Monday to Sunday: 10 am to 9 pm.
- Christmas Eve, 24 December 2026: 10 am to 2 pm (German homepage; not listed on the English hours block).
- Next edition 2027: 26 November – 24 December 2027 (do not stamp onto this 2026 row).
Location
Wooden booths with red-and-white cloth roofs stand on the Hauptmarkt (Main Market Square) and Rathausplatz. The Children’s Christmas Market is on Hans-Sachs-Platz. The Sister Cities’ Market is on Rathausplatz north of the Main Market Square.
