Burning The Clocks 2026
Event Status (2025‑2026)
Burning the Clocks will not take place in 2025. The organization is using this “fallow year” to review resources and secure its long‑term future. The full event returns in 2026, with a new effigy titled “Magicada” that symbolizes a period of rest followed by a noisy awakening.
2025 Lantern Installation
A massive lantern sculpture, designed and built by Same Sky associate artist Nikki Gunson, will be displayed publicly in Central Brighton on Sunday 21 December 2025. Further details will be announced closer to the date.

Event Description & Impact
Since 1994, Burning the Clocks has become a hallmark of Brighton’s winter solstice celebrations. Held on 21 December, the procession features up to 2,000 participants, luminous paper and willow lanterns, a bonfire, and a fire‑work display. Over 30,000 spectators attend, offering a non‑commercial, inclusive alternative to the holiday season.
Community Workshops
Same Sky runs free lantern‑making workshops for diverse groups, including homeless youth, single fathers, and young carers, fostering creativity, pride, and community connection.
