The British Invention Show & Awards (bis) is the UK's longest-running exhibition and awards programme for invention, innovation and technology, run by the British Inventors Society (thebis.org) since 2001. The 26th annual edition, the 2026/7 British Invention Awards, is being staged as an e-Awards programme: entries close 7 November 2026 and entrants are advised of their position by 30 November 2026. The organiser states that there is no live ceremony this year, so the 2026/7 cycle has no exhibition hall, stand layout or physical venue.

Award structure

Five award categories: British Invention, International Invention, Innovation, Design and Natural Earth. British Invention, International Invention and Innovation each carry three sub-categories (Industrial, Consumer, Leisure); Design and Natural Earth are single awards open across all three. A separate Youth Awards track is open to entrants under 18 on the closing date.

Entry

Entry is GBP 579 and covers one category plus a 35-word description of the invention; a youth entry is GBP 190; the first and second additional award categories are GBP 55 each; the Natural Earth Awards category is free of charge. Entries are scored by the British Invention of the Year Jury under the bis tiered award system.

Prizes

Bronze, Silver and Gold medals are awarded in the semi-final to entries reaching the jury's required score and standard; Double Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Obelisk Grand Prize winners receive certificates. Each cycle names 30 Grand Final winners, 5 outright winners and a World Invention Award. Where bis live events run, medals and glass awards are presented in person on stage at the Gala Dinner.

Track record

bis has donated more than GBP 100,000 to registered charities. Past winners include the iMagic PlaxiBATH and RotoBATH, the Marxman marking tool, the J-pillow, Walkodile and SecuriPlug. Founder and Patron is Kane Kramer, inventor of the IXI digital media player; the awards jury is chaired by Jeff Woolf OBE. Awards can be authenticated at verify.thebis.org.
