The Pecan St. Festival is one the most prestigious and long-running arts/crafts/music festivals in the country. It's presented by the Pecan Street Association a nonprofit 501(c). Special Events Live has produced the festival since 2006.

Pecan Street Festival is a fundraiser for the Austin Community. The association donates the proceeds to the preservation of the historic 6th Street in Downtown Austin.
Edwin Waller, who designed Austin's grid of streets, named the north-south roads after Texas rivers. He also recommended numerical designations for the east-west streets. They were instead named after trees. Later, this decision was reversed and the streets were given numbers. The festival still honors the original name, even though Pecan Street is now Sixth Street.
