Vienna will be celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Vienna World's Fair in 2023. This event will include numerous exhibitions at famous Viennese Museums as well as special openings and anniversaries as well as long-anticipated reopenings. Vienna 2023 will bring you all of this.

The MAK – Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna will be sparkling and glittering from 7th June 2023. J. & L. Lobmeyr was a part of the Vienna World's Fair 1873, and in 2023, the company will celebrate its 200th Anniversary. The exhibition "Glitz & Glamour" is a must-see. The exhibition "200 Years of Lobmeyr", presents shimmering, luxurious worlds in the form fantastic Viennese crafts.

On June 21, 2023, another special exhibition will open at the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna. The exhibition "The Vienna World's Fair Re-visited" marks the 150th anniversary the 1873 Vienna World's Fair. Egypt and Japan, Europe's "Orient", sheds light on a crucial aspect of the Vienna World's Fair: the "Orient", at the Vienna World's Fair was a 19th century Orientalism construct. This phenomenon is examined from different angles, with a particular focus on Egypt and Japan. Both countries were culturally and geologically classified at the time as "Orients". Looking at the composition of these countries today and the "internal workings" behind the enthusiasm for the Orient at the Vienna World's Fair reveals how complex Orientalism was in Vienna at the end of the 19th century.
