5th World Irrigation Forum (WIF5) 2027
5th World Irrigation Forum (WIF5)
The 5th World Irrigation Forum (WIF5), organized by the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and hosted by the Chinese National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (CNCID), will be held on 1 September 2027 at the Guoce International Conference & Exhibition Center in Beijing, China.
Theme: Modernization of Irrigation Systems
Pursuing water security has become a top priority in global development. As population growth increases the demand for freshwater, irrigated agriculture - historically the biggest freshwater consumer - faces reduced supply and competition from other sectors. Improving irrigation water management and modernizing irrigation systems is therefore of utmost importance.
Modernization of irrigation systems entails holistic improvement of resource mobilization, delivery to the farm gates, water-saving techniques, management practices, policies, institutional and financing mechanisms, ultimately resulting in agricultural, social, environmental and economic benefits.
Who Attends
The forum brings together all stakeholders involved in irrigation across disciplines and scales, including policymakers, experts, research institutions, non-governmental organizations and farmers, providing a platform for the world irrigation community to find solutions to problems facing irrigated agriculture in a time of depleting freshwater resources.
