SEM Annual Conference and Exposition is focused on experimental mechanics and its applications. It now includes the most recent technologies in optical methods, additive and advanced manufacturing; dynamic behaviour of materials; biological systems; fatigue and fracture; composite and polyfunctional materials; residual stresses; inverse problem methodology; thermomechanics and time dependent materials.
This broad focus on experimental mechanicals covers topics such as digital image and digital volume correlation techniques, speed impacts to shock, blast, durability, extreme environmental effects, model/experiment Integration, materials for advanced manufacture, damage detection, non destructive testing, tool/experiment integration and tools that span different length scales. It also includes new experimental techniques and methods to address real life applications.
International members of academia, government and industry make up the Society for Experimental Mechanics. They are committed to interdisciplinary research, development, education and active promotion experimental methods. These methods aim to: (a. increase knowledge of physical phenomena; (2) further understanding of the behavior and properties of materials, structures, and systems; (b. provide the physical basis and verification for analytic and computational approaches to engineering solutions development; and (3) provide the physical basis and verification.
