Canada has committed to eliminating coal by 2030, reducing greenhouse gas emissions 40 to 45% below 2005 levels by 2030 and creating a net zero electricity grid by 2035. The goal is to achieve net-zero emissions in 2050. Canada will have to triple its electricity production over the next 30 years. We need to use all sources of clean energy, including nuclear energy, in order to address the climate crisis and meet rising energy demand. Without nuclear, there is no real way to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Due to the enormity of the task to decarbonize our economy, net zero requires nuclear. The clean electricity that nuclear can supply is needed to decarbonize electricity networks and power electrification of buildings and transportation. It can also decarbonize heat, power and other industrial sectors in Canada. CNA2022 brings together experts from the industry to discuss and promote nuclear's role in Canada's pursuit of Net Zero and Canada's climate goals.
