Many decriminalization advocates are recognizing a gap in the Austin cannabis market. Too many obstacles prevent Austin cannabis businesses serving patients and customers. The barriers to Austin's cannabis laws seem to be the only thing that is "big".
Even though the Austin City Council passed a resolution to prohibit arresting and ticketing individuals for small amounts of marijuana possession, many activists, organizers and residents, as well as owners of Austin cannabis businesses, say that it is not enough.
Although most Texans oppose legalization of cannabis, the residents of Houston seem more open to the ban on any form of marijuana being used in the state.
This is mainly due to the Austin City Council's and Austin Police Department's resolution that publically agreed to not bring charges against anyone possessing marijuana in misdemeanor quantities. The amounts range from 0 to 4 ounces.
Brian Manley, chief of police, stated that the APD would no longer arrest anyone with enough identification for Class A or B misdemeanor marijuana offenses unless there's an immediate danger to their safety or they are doing so as part the investigation into a high-priority, felony level narcotics case, or the investigation into a violent crime." The Texas Tribune reported.
