Indonesia, with more than 278 million inhabitants, is the largest country in ASEAN. It also has one of the five largest markets for consumer electronics in the world. Indonesia's electronics industry has experienced rapid growth. The Indonesian Electronics Producers Association, or Gabel, reports that domestic sales of electronics products increase around 11% each year. The electronics industry in Indonesia includes a variety of sub-sectors, from consumer electronics to semiconductors.

The shift in electronics manufacturing from Japan to Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore is important. One of these countries is Indonesia. Indonesia has gained from the relocation from Japan, Taiwan and South Korea of electronic manufacturing centers. The appreciation in the currencies of these nations was the main reason for this relocation. One other factor was that many countries in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, began to promote electronics manufacturing.

According to the Making Indonesia 4.0 road map, the electronics industry has been given priority in the digital transformation. Investments in this sector increased by 7.8% between January and September 2021, or Rp 59.4 Trillion ($ 4 Bn). Exports in the electronics sector reached US$1.8 billion, or Rp. 25.9 trillion. This number has increased by 98% in comparison to the same time period last year (year-on-year/yoy).
