Recently, I've come across a few companies that have used app-based solutions to manage their health and safety obligations. These plug-and-play solutions seem fantastic on the surface. All of your employees are now connected to this system, and you can complete documentation while on the go.

When you dig deeper, it is alarming to see that these companies think the app is their safety and health system.

The rush to see everything on our phones, just like with maintenance management systems can take us away from our real job of managing systems. Inexperienced people are prone to become overly excited about their app, and forget what they're trying to accomplish. We need to have a system that details the hazards and risks of our operation. It also ensures our hazard control is continuously managed and records our learning so mistakes don't happen again. If things go wrong, these are the things that will be measured and tested by the Court.
