IoT allows devices not only to communicate within closed silos, but also across different networks. This creates a more connected environment.IoT, of course, is a key component of the digitisation in manufacturing, also known as Industry 4.0 or the "digitally-networked" society. Slow-moving businesses will suffer from a declining level of productivity and a shrinking return on investment.IoT is a significant advancement over conventional SCADA systems (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), which are common on factory floors. SCADA systems don't 'talk' with other systems, such as inventory, production, logistics, and sales. Implementing IoT allows for a wider use of data by allowing broader interconnection. IoT, for example, could allow a production line linked to sales and inventory to automatically reconfigure itself to produce small batches when needed.The IoT & Industry 4.0 Expo will be part of the Manufacturing & Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition at the SEC Glasgow from the 23rd – 24th of October 2024. It will aim to demystify the IoT, and show its growing use in industrial applications to improve efficiency and save time and money, while reducing waste, and improving safety.
