Parador de Oropesa, the first Parador to have been installed in a historical building, was a Medieval castle between the Gredos Mountains, the River Tagus and surrounded by a large holm oak forest. It was originally a castle. Later it became the palace of the Earls of Oropesa. This is the house and manor of Peru's 5th Viceroy, after whom the Parador is called. It is home to a museum, as well as an exquisite restaurant and an open-air swimming area.

You can do a variety of activities in Oropesa. You can visit the Convent of La Misericordia and the Church of San Bernardo. The Tietar Valley Route and the Embroidery Route are great options for exploring the area. This area is well-known for its crafts tradition. Beyond the province, the famed embroidery of Lagartera as well as the ceramics from Puente del Alzobispo are legendary. Oropesa is close to both of these towns. Oropesa's strategic location makes it a great starting point to explore the County of La Vera at the foot the Sierra de Gredos Mountains. Or you can take the road into Caceres to discover other destinations like Guadalupe and Plasencia.
