The Hamptons are part of Long Island's East End. They include the towns of Southampton, East Hampton, and the South Fork, Long Island. The Hamptons are a popular beach resort and one the oldest summer colonies in the northeastern United States.

The Montauk Branch, Long Island Rail Road, Montauk Highway and private bus services link the Hamptons with the rest of Long Island as well as New York City. Ferries connect to Shelter Island, New York, and Connecticut.

Stony Brook University's Southampton campus is located in the Hamptons.

The Hamptons includes the following villages and hamlets in the city of Southampton:.

These hamlets and villages are part of the Hamptons, which include East Hampton.

The Shinnecock Reservation is part of the Shinnecock Indian Nation and lies within the Town of Southampton. It borders Shinnecock Hills, the Village of Southampton and Shinnecock Hills.

These areas are the main vacation area at the east end Long Island.

The Hamptons are home to many communities. Historically, it has been devoted to agriculture and fishing. Many farms are still in operation in the area. There are three commercial vineyards operating in the Hamptons as well.

Because of its geographical location, the area maintained strong commercial and social connections to New England and nearby Rhode Island. Many of the original settlers came from Connecticut, and the majority of trade connections were with Connecticut communities. Many of the Hamptons' older architecture and aesthetics are reminiscent of New England. This is particularly true in Sag Harbor Village, East Hampton Village.
