Oktoberfest is one of Galveston’s most popular fall festival, providing German-themed entertainment and fun for the whole family.
Island Oktoberfest is held every year at the end of October. Live entertainment, shopping and a live auction are all part of the event. There are also various children's games. Dress in your best German clothing, watch the taping of the keg and enjoy some authentic German food!
This lively event, held on the grounds and adjacent streets of the First Lutheran Church in downtown Galveston at 24th and Winnie, is one not to miss. All proceeds from the festival will go to First Lutheran Church outreach programs, such as Feed Galveston, Fanfare and Outreach.
The weekend is always a fun time for everyone, with dancing and great music, as well as a Biergarten that serves German and domestic beers. You can eat all the bratwurst and pretzels you want, then work off those calories by participating in the annual Chicken Dance Contest. A silent auction and a contest to see how long you can hold your stein are also included. There's also a silent auction, stein-holding contest (how long can you hold your stein? This area is designed to keep children entertained for hours, with its rock wall, giant dual-lane slide, pony rides and more.
