Meraki is the cultural focus for 2024.
Meraki is the third chapter in our five-year Cultural Focus storyline. Meraki is a Greek word that means to do something with passion, love, and soul. Metamorphosis, the first festival in 2022 to emerge from the pandemic, asked us to accept and embrace change and transformation. Lagom, in 2023, compelled us accept change as a part of our journey to find a new equilibrium within ourselves, communities and our larger eco-system. Meraki encourages us to find joy in our lives, so we can approach and accomplish anything with pride, soulfulness and discipline.

Northwest Folklife presents Laulima, the first annual creative festivalEcosystems summit. This meeting brings together anA group of creative individuals to discuss strategies, tools andCollaborations to build a resilient, prosperous and creative economy ecosystem. Teachers, students and emerging professionals will be invited.Professionals, industry leaders and culture bearers.
Threads of The People is our version of a fashion show. It includes a mixture of runway shows and workshops, as well as vendor booths and displays, and material exchanges. This new addition will explore fashion as folk art and the interconnections between fashion and culture. It will also bring fashion back to it's roots, when clothing was made by hand in the home, using materials from the environment.
