Gallery of Contemporary Art - House of Art of České Budějovice.
The House of Art of Ceske Budejovice was home to the Contemporary Art Gallery from 1997 to 2009. It was managed by Mestske kulturni domy, a joint-stock company that had the building under a long-term rental agreement with the town. The section of culture in Ceske Budejovice took over the management of the gallery at the beginning of February 2010.
Under the direction of Michal Skoda the gallery's dramaturgy has been focusing on contemporary visual arts as well as architecture since 1998. The gallery presents exhibitions each year featuring important Czech artists as well as artists from other countries. These artists are often presented here for the first-time in Eastern Europe and in Czech Republic. Young artists are also given space. This is not a collection or commercial gallery.
Ceske Budejovice was able to establish a prestigious gallery that has an international reputation. It is the only Czech Republic gallery that prepares a program with such high quality foreign artist exhibitions each year. Ceske Budejovice is not only a place where world-famous beer can be produced but also because it is home to notable cultural activities.
The House of Art is a place that has been able to achieve a high level of cultural excellence through its systematic work.
