After four years of construction, the "House of Music" in Aalborg, Denmark was ceremoniously opened on March 29, 2014 by the Danish Queen Margrethe II.

The Viennese architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l),au designed this cultural centre as a school-concert hall. Its open structure encourages interaction between students and teachers, as well as between artists and audience members. The outer shape of the building reveals the idea behind it. Wolf D. Prix (design principal, CEO, Coop Himmelb(l),au) explained that the school encompasses the concert hall.

The ensemble's core, which is a concert hall that can hold approximately 1,300 people, has U-shaped rehearsal and practice rooms. These spaces are connected by a large foyer that opens onto a multi-storey area and onto a nearby cultural space and a river. Three additional rooms, each of different sizes, are located under the foyer: the classic hall, rhythmic hall and intimate hall. Visitors and students can view the concert hall through multiple observation windows. They can also see the practice rooms and the foyer.

The flowing shapes and curves of the auditorium inside stand in contrast to the strict, cubic outer shape. The seats in the orchestra and curved balconies are arranged in such a way that offers the best possible acoustics and views of the stage. The highly complex acoustic concept was developed in collaboration with Tateo Nakajima at Arup. The design of the amorphous plaster structures on the walls and the height-adjustable ceiling suspensions, based on the exact calculations of the specialist in acoustics, ensures for the optimal listening experience.
