Bill UnderwoodBill Underwood, a former drug dealer, was sentenced to a life term without parole in 1988. Bill Underwood was released from federal prison on January 15, 2021, the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., after 33 years.
He is currently a Senior Fellow at The Sentencing Project’s Campaign to End Life Imprisonment, where he advocates for sustainable sentencing and second chances to economically marginalized communities. He is a consultant, speaker, advisor and entrepreneur at the Underwood Legacy Fund.
Ebony UnderwoodEbony is a social entrepreneur and content creator. She is also an ASPEN Institute Ascend fellow. She founded WE GOT US IN 2017 as the first national, nonprofit, nonpartisan, advocacy organization led and built by children and young people impacted by parental imprisonment. The mission of the organization is to engage, empower, educate and elevate this historically invisible group through digital narratives and safe and inclusive spaces.
