SouthMACH Manufacturing and Electronics Exhibition. Dates for 2025 Announced Want to exhibit? Wednesday 28th 9am-6pmThursday 29th, 9am-4pm. Wolfbrook Arena Christchurch. MIT ENGINEERS - 3D PRINT. FIRE AND GAS MAPPER .... Transforming Industry - Exploring the Application of Advanced Manufacturing in New Zealand. Engineer salaries are increasing, but there is a skills shortage and a short-term challenge. AMW2024 is a great opportunity to run into the zones.
SouthMACH, the largest South Island manufacturing technology trade show, is held every year.
ELECTROMAGNETS ARE AT THE HEART of MANY ELECTRICITIES.
Imagine building a dialysis machine with nothing more than a 3-D printer.
It would not only be possible to reduce costs, but also eliminate manufacturing waste. People with limited resources, or those living in remote areas, could have easier access to this medical device.
A team from MIT demonstrated fully 3D-printed three-dimensional solenoids.
Solenoids are electromagnets made by wrapping a coil around a core of magnetic material. They're used in many electronic devices, including dialysis machines, respirators, washing machines, and dishwashers.
Researchers modified a 3D printer to print solenoids with a compact magnetic core in just one step. This prevents any defects from being introduced in the post-assembly process.
Researchers were able to use this customised printer that used higher-performing materials compared to typical commercial printers. They produced solenoids capable of generating a magnetic field three times bigger than any other 3D printed device.
