The festival is a major contributor to the growth and development of Ocean Springs. Our mission is to raise public awareness about our local artists, restaurants, shops and shops and create opportunities for business development, as well as a welcoming lifestyle for residents and tourists alike, while we share the Creative Economy. The "Festival Season" starts in late August, and continues through the two day event held the first weekend of November every year. The festival has become one of the Southeast’s premier arts and crafts events. The estimated 150,000 attendees last year included more than 400 food, art and craft booths. The festival was set up along downtown streets under the live oaks, surrounded by local shops, restaurants, and galleries. It is a bit of a street festival with music, food and specials from local businesses and restaurants. The festival has grown since its humble beginnings thanks to the dedication and hardwork of an army volunteers.In 1978, Klara Koock approached Betty Godwin Walker, the chamber director of that time, and proposed an arts festival. Ann Allen, the chamber president, and Klara Koock discussed the idea. She then presented it to board members.Margaret Anderson, Peter Anderson’s daughter-in law and the festival's guiding force during its first 26 years, remembered that 56 booths were parked in the old cinderblock lot of the Chamber.
