We began to think about the myths we live by after the Lunar New Year celebrations and the Year of the Dragon.
In Korean culture the Dragon is the deity who rules over the ocean, water or rain.
Rainbow Serpent is a powerful force of Nature in our indigenous culture.
We live in a multi-cultural community where myths and stories are a part of everyday life.
This year, the OSAE invites to you contemplate these tales. This is a guideline that will help you to channel your creative and artistic talents.
We are not looking for dragons or serpents in art, but rather a story that explains the myth. These stories can be told in many different ways.
Ocean Shores Art Expo celebrated its 20th anniversary with the theme "Celebration". In the Open Category, there were 172 works from 150 artists. There were also 99 works by Primary School students and 158 works by Secondary School students. All of these works were displayed in the Ocean Shores Community Centre's main hall. The judges said that the art works were very high-quality for a community art exhibition. Opening Night saw over 250 people, and many more the next two days. Over the weekend of the exhibition, 10 beautiful works were sold. Mick Stovin won the Frank Mills Award, a $2,000 prize, with his charcoal on paper # 83 "Unite a Nation". The Expo featured many performances, from young dancers of the Brunswick Valley School of Dance and The Songbirds to their magnificent vocals.
