Presque Isle, Maine. Always the weekend before Labor Day Weekend. Crown of Maine Balloon Fest. Aroostook county is rich in ballooning heritage. The Double Eagle II made its first successful Atlantic crossing in 1978. Joe Kittinger was the first to solo cross the Atlantic in a balloon, starting from Caribou, in 1984. Jonathan Trappe's 2013 attempt to fly across the Atlantic using 365 helium-filled balloons set a distance record when he landed on Newfoundland.
