Explosion protection is a safety technology used to protect people, machinery and plant in hazardous zones. There are many technical and organizational measures that can be taken to limit the effects of an explosion and prevent explosive atmospheres.
In Europe, the directive 2014/34/EU sets out binding and standardised requirements for quality in relation to explosion protection of equipment and components. The manufacturers must therefore design and develop equipment that is explosion-proof to avoid becoming a source for ignition.
On the following pages you can find more information about the technical bases, or download our "Essential Explosion Protection" brochure.
Zones of potentially explosive atmospheres have been created to simplify the selection and design of electrical installations. The classification of zones reflects the likelihood of an explosive environment.
When dividing potentially explosive zones into zones, and when determining protective measures necessary, the maximum risk potential of each area should be considered. In the event that the company lacks the necessary personnel to conduct the risk assessment and determine the appropriate measures, a third party authority will be assigned.
