Seafair's summer celebrations come to a grand finale.
Seafair, Seattle's oldest festival, is a celebration of water sports, and the Torchlight Parade, the highlight, brings it all to a close. The parade is a throwback to the celebration of Seattle's 100th anniversary in 1950. The parade is held either on the last or first Saturday in August. The parade starts at night and the participants are not only carrying torches, but also all sorts of luminescent devices. Every year, the parade draws over 300,000. The parade features 100 units such as clowns, drill teams, and equestrians. The parade highlights the diverse cultures of the Seattle area including Sikhs from Washington. The Seafair Torchlight Parade begins at 7:30pm and ends around 10pm. The public can watch the parade for free, but reserved seats are available at a cost of $25 to $50. From 12pm to 6pm, curious and impatient viewers can visit Seattle Center for a preview of the parade.
