Themes 2023. The delivery committee is pleased to announce themes for MATS. During MATS, we aim to explore Marine Autonomous Systems. (MAS). We seek to highlight the importance of MAS as well as to represent each of its key aspects through the themes outlined. We encourage presenters of different nationalities, backgrounds and genders to participate in the conference. This includes young engineers and technicians who are just starting their careers. This will be an exciting dive into the field. Theme 1: Net Zero Capability and Sustainability We want to know how organisations are implementing sustainability into their operations, both today and in the future. The Net Zero Capability has become a reality, and new developments are driving it forward. How is MAS achieving that? We are interested in understanding the current planning and development processes and how they can be improved. Theme 2: Applications & Users Through this theme, we invite presentations from end-users in the fields of Science, Industry, Government and Defence. The presentations should be focused on the current and future application of MAS. They should highlight what users' requirements are and their associated challenges. We will strive to achieve a balance between current and future activities in order to include both forward-looking ideas and ground-breaking examples. Theme 3. Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Applications This new theme will explore and apply the latest advances and applications of Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Machine Learning(ML) to Marine Autonomous Systems and Marine Data Analysis. AI and ML have become powerful tools that are used to improve MAS performance, efficiency and usability, such as in navigation, perception and environmental monitoring. AI integration into MAS has many advantages, but also some challenges. How much can we trust these technologies? Are they relevant to real-life applications and contexts for end users? How do they contribute to sustainable development? We are looking for presentations on topics such as autonomous navigation, planning and data collection, oceanography and marine robots.
