Spain postpones HD DTT migration to 2024 | Advanced Television
Spain delays HD DTT migration until 2024.
The Spanish government has delayed the migration of all SD DTT channels to HD till February 14th, 2024.
Nadia Calvino is the Vice President of Economy. She says the delay was caused by the shortage of HD TV sets on the market due to the pandemic. She also says that by delaying migration, many viewers who can't afford HD TV sets won't be left without DTT services.
The SD DTT switch off was originally planned to take place by January 1, 2023. However, the Government announced its first postponement of this date in July 2022.
The regulatory body CNMC stated that a delay would be best in October 2022 as there were not enough HD TV sets on the market. The CNMC also pushed for TV broadcasters to be able to migrate from SD to HD as they please.
