Armstrong Park hosts the Congo Square New World Rhythms Festival every year. Mardi Gras Indians perform, African dance is performed, as well as music from all genres including jazz, brass bands and soul.

This festival celebrates New Orleans traditions originating from the African diaspora. The festival is held in Congo Square. This is where enslaved Africans and people of color came together on Sundays to continue their tradition of song, dance and drumming.

Festivals usually include an arts market, a food court and a Mardi Gras Indian battle, where Mardi Gras Indian tribes meet in Congo Square. Workshops may be offered, including African dance and other activities.

The festival also hosts Class Got Brass, which is a competition between schools for brass bands and a performance.
