Louisiana Crawfish Fest Foundation's mission is to assist those who are in need. The Louisiana Crawfish Fest Foundation aims to support local programs in St. Bernard Parish, and surrounding areas. The foundation wants to promote the Golden Rule as a daily rule in all human relations. This organization's purpose is not just to promote St. Bernard Parish, culture, and tourism, but to also be charitable, patriotic and educational.
The Knights of Columbus Rummel Council 574 747 recognized a need within the St. Bernard Community in 1975. A member of the Rummel Council 5747 suggested hosting a Louisiana Crawfish Festival when they were discussing how to raise money. Hurricane Katrina destroyed St. Bernard Parish in 2005. The festival was not held again until 2007. Residents of St. Bernard gathered with family and friends who had moved away following the hurricane. Some say that the festival is the reason they came back to St. Bernard Parish in order to rebuild. The Louisiana Crawfish Festival, once it was reestablished, became the primary fundraiser for the Knights of Columbus Rummel Council. This allowed them to donate more than $100,000 each year to various community initiatives in the St. Bernard Community. The Louisiana Crawfish Festival has donated more than TWO MILLION DOLLARS to the local community since Hurricane Katrina. The committee created the Louisiana Crawfish Fest Foundation to commemorate the 45th Louisiana Crawfish Festival. It is a 501(c3) non-profit organization.
