Manufacturing is the second largest sector in the Western Cape, and it contributes approximately 15% of the South African manufacturing output. The province's agroprocessing sector showed resilience in tough economic times and its renewables industries and green tech industries received significant investment over the last five years.

In the province, two thirds of South Africa’s manufacturing investment is in renewables – that's 8 of the 12 manufacturers in the country. In 2011, Atlantis was envisioned as a green hub. It is now a Special Economic Zone for "Greentech". This SEZ is expected to receive an additional R1 billion over the next 5 years, mainly in the renewable energy industry.

The GreenTech SEZ helps the manufacturing sector become component and supplier manufacturers of clean technology such as components for renewable energy.

West Coast Industrial Plan also continues to move forward. The Department of Economic Development, Department of Environmental Affairs & Development Planning and Department of Public Works – together with Saldanha Municipality and Green Cape - are partnering on this project.
