ExposUM is a joint initiative of the University of Montpellier with its partners[1]. It aims to create an open-ended research institute that can study, train and interact between science and society about the environmental determinants of human and animal health. ExposUM was selected as the winner of the ExcellenceS call (PIA4), and is supported by Occitanie Region. It will receive 46.4 MEUR in funding over the 2022-2030 period.

The exposome is a collection of environmental and social exposures that occur throughout life. These factors, along with individual characteristics, are responsible for health and the development, evolution, and severity of non-communicable diseases. It is, in this sense, the environmental counterpart to the genome that interacts with it throughout life.

The Research Axis of the ExposUM Institute is designed to accelerate the acquisition of primary information in an inter-disciplinary, coordinated, and non-segmented way on the four fields of study of the Exposome.

Transversally, the "data science” dimension (in its broadest sense) can be found in all the pillars. This is both from a methodological perspective (new methods), and for the exploitation, valorisation, and valorisation, of results.
