Modernization of Irrigation Systems

5th World Irrigation Forum, Beijing, China, Jan. 01, 2027 – Jan. 01, 20,27, Guoce International Conference & Exhibition Center.

Water security has been a top priority for global development in recent decades. The increasing population and the subsequent development of countries demand more freshwater. In the past, irrigated farming was the largest freshwater user, but this is changing due to limited water availability and competition from other sectors. In the current situation of increased water scarcity, the agriculture sector and food security will be the ones to bear the brunt. In the current time, it is vital to improve irrigation water management systems and promote modernization.

Modernization of irrigation systems involves a holistic improvement in resource mobilization, delivery of water to farm gates, management techniques, policies, institutional, and financing mechanisms, which ultimately results in agricultural, economic, social and environmental benefits. Topics such as modernization and revitalization are relevant to ICID's vision and mission and also of interest to its members. The flagship event, World Irrigation Forum 4 (WIF4), aims to emphasize the importance of modernization and discuss in detail different aspects, outlined by the sub-themes. In light of the above, we invite papers and discuss them under the following sub-themes (ST):.
