Shinsegae's newest department store, the Shinsegae Daejeon Art & Science Department Store, is a regional landmark that combines art, culture and science into a futuristic environment with a variety experiential content.A Modern Italian Villa ReinterpretedThe main floor, which is 62,500 square feet, houses luxury accessory brands like Fendi Bottega Veneta and Saint Laurent as well as jewelry, over 40 beauty brands, such as Gucci Beauty, Cle de Peau Beaute and Gucci Beauty. The vision for the design was to create an elegant hall in the style of an early modern Italian Villa, inspired by such great Italian architects like Luigi Moretti or Carlos Scarpa.JHA has reinterpreted classical design elements such as vaulted-ceilings using custom-made decorative light pendants to highlight circulation paths. The flooring is a contemporary interpretation of an Italianate floor using Veneto White and Contra Black marble slabs.A Contemporary Sculpture ParkThe second floor, which is 57,000 sq ft, showcases luxury brands for both men's and women's fashion. The design was inspired from the sculptures of Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore as well as the cubist paintings of George Braque.Women's modern luxury space features Nairobi black marble flooring and hand-plastered sculptural elements in bone-white on the ceiling, walls and columns. This creates an inviting and intimate shopping environment. The men's space was designed in a sculptural and contemporary style. Blonde Oak tiles and a dimensional ceiling create a masculine atmosphere, while the sequoia brown marble floor emphasizes the asymmetrical pattern.
