Atlantic City is often known as A.C. and is a beach resort in Atlantic County, New Jersey. It is well-known for its casinos, boardwalk and beaches. The city's population was 38,497 in 2020. [13] The city was formed from parts of Egg Harbor Township, Galloway Township on May 1, 1854. It is situated on Absecon Island, borders Pleasantville, Ventnor City and Egg Harbor Township and the Atlantic Ocean.

Atlantic City was the inspiration for the U.S. Monopoly board game, particularly the street names. Atlantic City is the home of Miss America since 1921. New Jersey voters approved casino gambling in Atlantic City in 1976. The first casino was opened in 1978.

The summer home of Lenape was on the island that would become the new settlement for many years. Although the exact date of Atlantic City's founding is not known, it is widely believed that Jeremiah Leeds built and lived on the island in 1783. It wasn't until 1850, however, that the idea to make the island a resort city was born. The name \"Atlantic City” was adopted in 1853. [22]

He also discusses his efforts to convince local authorities to allow for a railroad. Samuel Richards, an entrepreneur and member of southern New Jersey's most powerful family at the time, helped to create the railroad and shared the experiences of 600 riders.
