Minneapolis (/mIni’[email protected]/ (listen),) is a U.S. city and the county seat for Hennepin County. Minneapolis is rich in water with 13 lakes, wetlands and streams. It was once the capital of flour milling and timber. It is located on both the Mississippi River's banks and adjacent to Saint Paul, Minnesota's capital.

Dakota people lived in the city before European settlement. The construction of Fort Snelling, 1819, spurred growth along Saint Anthony Falls. Minneapolis, with 429,954 residents, is the largest city in Minnesota and the 46th-most populous in the country. The Twin Cities are Minneapolis, Saint Paul and the surrounding areas.

Minneapolis is home to one of the best parks systems in the country. The Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway connects many of these parks. Some of these trails are old railroad tracks that run through the city. Minneapolis experiences cold, snowy winters as well as hot, humid summers. Minneapolis is home to many large companies. It is also the birthplace for Pillsbury, General Mills, and Target Corporation. You will find the Guthrie Theater and the First Avenue nightclub in the city. Minneapolis is home to four professional sports teams.
