Gothenburg (/’[email protected]/ (listen);[5] abbreviated GBg;[6][7] Swedish Goteborg [joete’borj] [listen]) is the capital of Vastra Gotaland County, the second-largest municipality in Sweden. It is located by Kattegat on the west coast in Sweden and has an estimated population of 590,000. There are also approximately 1.1 million residents in the metropolitan area. [8]

Gothenburg was established as a fortified trading colony in the Netherlands by King Gustavus Adolphus in 1621.
