Χαροκόπειο Πανεπιστήμιο - The University
Harokopio University of Athens, a public university, is dedicated to the promotion of research and learning in a narrowly focused set of intellectual areas. The university is located in the center of Athens, near the Unesco World Heritage Centre of the Acropolis. It was established from an educational institution in 1929. In 1990, it received the status of University. Its name is derived from Panagis Harokopos, the national benefactor.
The university's campus is home to four academic departments, the central admin, the library and the IT centre. It also offers student advisory services. The Harokopio University of Athens lies close to important cultural sites such as Keramikos, Keramikos, Thissio and Panathenaic Stadium, (Kallimarmaron), Keramikos, and the Acropolis Museum.
