Brevnov Monastery, Czech: Brevnovsky klaster; German: Stift Breunau), is a Benedictine monastery in Prague's Brevnov district, Czech Republic. It was established by Saint Adalbert II, the second bishop of Prague in 993 AD, with the support from Bohemian Duke Boleslaus. It is the first Benedictine monastery for male Benedictine nuns in Bohemia and also boasts the oldest tradition in Czech beer brewing. Brewing was stopped several times throughout history. However, until today, the Brevnov Monastery Brewery still brews its beer here. [2]

Adalbert of Prague founded the monastery in 993. Adalbert of Prague, a disputing ruler, left Bohemia 994. Czech Duke Bretislav I, who began construction on a stone church and managed the remains of Gunther (Bavaria) the monk from Niederaltaich Abbey, gave the new impetus. Broumov and Police were the first to be established as filial monasteries in northern Bohemia.

The entire monastery and brewery were almost destroyed during the Hussite Wars of the 1420s. The construction of a Baroque monastery complex was completed by Abbot Othmar Dan Zinke after the Thirty Year's War. It was built according to Christoph Dientzenhofer's plans. His son Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer designed the interior of the buildings including St Margaret's Church, conventual buildings, and the prelate's House. He used altarpieces by Petr and a ceiling fresco from Cosmas Damian asam. The stucco work was done by Egid Quirin ASam. The annual beer production reached 5,000 hl.
