Wiener Stadthalle is an indoor arena that serves multiple purposes and is located in Vienna's 15th district. The original halls were designed by Roland Rainer, an Austrian architect. They were built between 1953 and 1958 and then expanded in 1974 and 1994, 1994, and 2006. With a capacity of around 16,152, the main hall is Austria's largest indoor venue.

The complex houses six main venues, each of which can be used individually or together. It includes two gymnasiums and an indoor icerink, large-capacity indoor arena as well as a small multipurpose hall, auditorium with a stage and an adjacent swimming pool. The complex is used for concerts, exhibitions and trade fairs. It also hosts lectures, theatre, television, and sports events.

Wien Holding's subsidiary, the Wiener Stadthalle, hosts more than 350 events annually that draw around one million people each year. The Viennese sporting venues corporation GmbH manages Halls A, B, and C as well as the Stadthallenbad.

The arena has been site of the annual Erste Bank Open tennis tournament since 1974 and has hosted the ice shows Vienna Ice Revue and Holiday on Ice, the touring horse show Apassionata annually and the circus show Artisten-Tiere-Attraktionen from 1959 to 1995.[2]

The Stadthalle has hosted many sporting events, including the 1970 European Athletics Indoor Championships and the 2004 European Short Course Swimming Championships.
