In the years that followed Emperor Franz Joseph's guests stayed at this first-class hotel, including the inventor Thomas Edison who stayed there in 1911. It was partially destroyed by fire in 1923 and used as a military hospital in the Second World War. It was used as an officers' mess by the British occupation forces until 1954 when it was reopened. After another fire in 1963, the hotel was renovated completely and expanded to become the largest hotel complex in Vienna. The hotel has been managed by Austria Trend Hotels since 1999. In 2010, it was expanded and modernized. The unique blend of imperial nostalgia with modern conveniences has enabled Parkhotel Schonbrunn guests to enjoy all aspects of Viennese charm, not only in their rooms and suites, but also in the restaurants and bars and in the conference rooms.
