Polish gardeners and farmers, as well as shareholders of Agro-Best Sp., raised the idea to create a wholesale market in Warsaw. Gielda Ogrodnicza Sp. z o. o. (Gardening Market Ltd.). After they were drawn to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Economy, their attention was piqued. The Ministry then developed the Government Program for Building the Wholesale and Agricultural Commodity Exchanges. The program's main goal was to increase the wholesale turnover for agricultural-food products, and to adapt it to European standards. In 1995, deriving from the experience of wholesale markets in Europe, particularly from French Wholesale Market in Rungis: http://www.rungisinternational.com/, Wholesale Market in Bologna and Wholesale Market in Lyon, the joint-stock company has been brought to existence, named Warszawski Rolno-Spozywczy Rynek Hurtowy SA (Eng. Warsaw Agricultural-Food Wholesale Market Inc. The location of Bronisze, Warsaw's surrounding area, was chosen as the headquarters of the Company.
