Zawisza Bydgoszcz is a Polish sports club that was founded in 1946. Its name is a tribute to Zawisza Czarny, a 15th-century Polish knight. There are many sections to the club: boxing, track and field, boxing and rowing; weightlifting; canoeing; weightlifting; gymnastics; shooting; and parachuting. [1]

Although they initially played only friendly matches, the 1946 team was established as a military-sponsored Koszalin club. The club was established in 1946, when the army headquarters moved from Koszalin to Bydgoszcz. [1][2]

Some successes have been achieved by the football team, which played for many years in the Polish First Division and was promoted in 1961.

They reached the semi-finals in the Polish Cup 1991[3]and competed in the 1993 Intertoto Cup. [4]

In the 1997-98 season, Zawisza was moved from the Second to the Fourth Level. They merged with Chemik Bydgoszcz in 2001 and were known as Chemik-Zawisza. The reserve team was originally called Zawisza–Chemik. However, the reserve team continued to be called \"Zawisza\". The merger was a failure. The senior side began afresh from the bottom of league pyramid, reverting back to \"Chemik\", leaving behind the reserve team in fifth division. This became Zawisza’s senior team. [5]

Hydrobudowa scandal, which lasted from 2006 to 2008, was the only reason why the original team was promoted to the Third Level. They finished 1st in the III Liga regional Group in the 2007-2008 season. [6] After a 13-year gap, Zawisza was promoted from the II liga to I liga on 12 June 2011. He finished second in their regional Group of the III liga West Group in 2010-11 and 5 points behind Olimpia Grziadz. [7] Zawisza was awarded the I liga in 2013 and promoted to the Ekstraklasa. [8]
