A large park can be found just behind the RAI congress and exhibition halls. It is only twenty minutes from Okura Hotel. This park was established as the site of Floriade, the second world gardening fair. The municipality tried to preserve some of its attractions after the fair ended. Today, Amstelpark is one of the most visited parks in Amsterdam.

Amstelpark can be found along the Amstel river. You can see the river flowing through the park's back entrance, in direction Amsteldijk. From there, you will be able to walk straight to a massive Rieker windmill, built in 1636. Rembrandt used to walk along the river from Amsterdam and draw landscapes. A small bronze monument is located just behind the windmill. These views of Amstel river were later reproduced in Rembrandt's prints. You might decide to continue walking along the river in the direction of south. After about 30 minutes, you will reach Oudekerk. You should visit it, especially if this is your first time in the Netherlands. Oudekerk is a great way to get a feel for the Dutch province. It's full of respect for tradition and is surrounded by water. The people are friendly and neat.
