Concertgebouw de Vereeniging - Wikipedia

Concertgebouw de Vereeniging.

Concertgebouw de Vereeniging, a concert hall in Nijmegen (Netherlands), is located. It was officially opened in 1915. The building is a mix of Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. It can hold 1,450 people (or 1,800 standing during pop concerts) and is well-known for its exceptional acoustics[2].

Concertgebouw de Vereeniging is a designated Rijksmonument.

The private society De Vereeniging was founded in 1882 with a concert hall at Keizer Karelplein. The plans for a new concert hall were drawn up after the Nijmegen old hall had enjoyed its best days around 1900. Conductor Willem Mengelberg's attitude proved that these plans weren't a luxury. As long as the accommodation was not improved, he refused to return to Nijmegen. The official opening of the new concert hall took place in February 1915, after construction began in 1914. Oscar Leeuw, a Roermond architect, was the architect. The opening of the Kleine Zaal (the small hall) took two more years. Because Oscar Leeuw, the architect, and his brother Henri Leeuw Jr. (painter and sculptor), had contributed to the Vereeniging, it turned out that they were a 'Gesamtkunstwerk. Huib Luns, a painter from Nijmegen, and Egidius Everaerts (an Antwerp sculptor), developed the figurative work. Jacques Oor created the non-figurative.

Built in Um 1800 forms that are strictly classically-oriented. The building exhibits many characteristics of Art Nouveau as well as Art Deco. Mengelberg claimed to have called the building the'most beautiful Concerthall in The Netherlands'. This hall is well-known for its excellent acoustics. The Entrance and Colonnade are also located in the building. The building was originally intended to be used as an opera and theater concert hall, as well as as a ball hall or exhibition hall. This building is Oscar Leeuw's \"opus magnum\" in his oeuvre.
