The University of Cadiz (in Spanish: Universidad de Cadiz), also known as UCA, a public university in Andalusia, Spain. It is well-known for its marine and medicine curricula. It was established in 1979. Its headquarters is located in Cadiz where the Rectorate can be found.The university had 17,280 students in 2007/2008, [3] 1698 lecturers and 680 administrative and service workers.

The 15th century saw the birth of the University with the Colegio de Pilotos de los Mares de Levante y Poniente.

The Faculty of Medicine can be traced back to 1748's Royal Naval College of Surgery, which was the first European school to combine medicine with surgery.

The modern University of Cádiz was founded on October 30, 1979, with an inaugural session "Cajal, análisis literario de un carácter" about Ramón y Cajal[4] and the first rector election was conducted in 1984.

Juan Carlos I of Spain was presented with the Gold Medal in March 1984. Rafael Alberti was awarded the Gold Medal in March 1984. Antonio Dominguez Ortiz was made Doctor Honoris Causa in May 1985. The rectorate was moved to Casa de los Cinco Gremios in this year. In February 1986, the University statutes and bylaws were approved.
